Week 8 Highlights

Alpine was converted to a boardercross circuit switching our focus from spinning to rails. Always fun riding here because of the flow in the course.

Lakeridge comp was cancelled due to some sheduling conflicts with AOS, thanks to everyone for adjusting to the last minute changes. Half the crew rocked out in Osler's park which was in tip-top shape.

Next week from 5-7pm there is an open jib jam under the chalet tunnel at Osler. No pressure just a chill session. Stick around for some good times.

Week 7 Highlights

During the week we had a few injuries... Tyler got into a fight with Chris and Sean tried to break it up and found himself with a broken collar bone. (just kidding.. two face plants and a flat landing in the pipe...) We're gonna miss you Sean!

Saturday found us at the peaks for another spinning session. Beautiful sunny day really gave Scotty a chance to work on his tan.

Sunday was a rainy day leaving us playing 'pass the ski-gee' during the AOS slopestyle at Louie. They held the comp in the jump line making us go big or go home. Oliver made friends with the washroom floor after a nasty spill on hill left his head a little shaken up. Alex killed it in his prelim runs but suffered some performance anxiety during the comp. Tessa made it into the podium taking home a medal for the team. Will and Sean would have done well in this comp with their air control... next time.

Week 6 Highlights

Mt. St. Louie was a fantastic training ground for us this weekend, getting us prepared for the upcoming AOS slopestyle event. They had some more advanced features that forced us all to conquer some fears. The pipe wasn't in great shape, however there was a huge variety of long rails. The park staff at Louie wasn't as pro-active as our staff at Osler, Craigleith and the Peaks. So remember to show some love to your friendly park staff when they're grooming a feature!

Craigleith was a snowy, blustery day. Carly again surprised us mastering the 30' (or was it 40'?!) flat bar (at louie), and front/back boardslides on the c-box. Sean threw down some huge 360s, while Oliver started to master control in his spins. Zach showed up with a nice tan (making scott jealous) and it was nice to see Will back in action again.

Amazing what you can find online...

Training- Effortless Spinning

This tip will give you
1. More airtime
2. More time to spot your landing
3. A calmer spin, making it less effort to rotate.

Why? Stand up, try this at home.
1. Stand tall, legs apart as wide as your snowboard stance. Stick your arms out to your sides (you look like maggie simpson in a snow suit). Twist your upper body around as much as you can. Feel how far you're able to twist?
2. Squat down low, so your knees are in you chest, arms out to the side. Twist you upper body around.
3. Notice how much less you're able to twist? Feel how solid your core is tightened up? Your body has become one solid mass, rather than two twisted up parts.

So, when you pop up, suck your knees up to your chest, like you're squating in the air, and you'll have calmer, easier rotations.

Take a look at Jeremy's 360 video- Watch how everything becomes one mass, knees to chest. Check out Chris' frame and the comparison frames from your mid-spins (or mid airs- carly/tessa) to see what your body is doing. Let's see if anyone can tuck tighter than Chris next week...

Training - Fronside 540- Sean/Chris

Analysing fronstide 540's.
Focusing on takeoff.

1. Look at position of body taking off on the lip. Chris is stacked hips over center of the board (slightly set back, but notice how he recenters after he pops). Sean your hips are 'in the back seat' and stay in the back seat.
2. Look at the position of the board. Because you were set in the back on take off, and weren't able to recenter yourself, your spin has gone off axis.
3. You spot the landing really well with your head which helps your spin stay together.

For future focus on taking off with your hips aligned over the center of the board. This will help you to keep your board flat and 'on axis' giving you a more compact and effortless rotation.
